Crewel Embroidery

Crewel is one of the most popular forms of embroidery found in Jammu and Kashmir. This special kind of craft, doing with a hook called crewel, is commonly used for drapery and upholstery.

It is marked with its minute designs. Rows of chain stitch are done using crewel, from solid patterns usually rotating from centre and creating a stamped effect, to add richness to the textile.

The embroidery is usually done on thick material. The width of the material is 54 inches and is available in running meterage. This carries floral and creeper designs in assortment of colors ranging from a single color to multi color embroidery.

Crewel Embroidery is also available on bed spreads in various sizes ranging from single to king size.
