Udhampur is one of the prominent towns of
Udhampur District in
Jammu and Kashmir. It is an important military cantonment in North India and is about 66 km north-east of
Jammu.
The town was named after the Raja Udham Singh, the eldest son of Maharaja Gulab Singh who founded Dogra rule.
An ancient stone temple complex, which stands in the midst of lush green hills to the north-west of the town, is one of the major attractions. Krimchi Temples,
Babore Temples and Hindu shrine of Sri Mata Vaishno Devi are other interesting places around the town.
Nearest airport is at Jammu. Udhampur Railway Station is the terminus point on the rail line from Jammu. Udhampur is situated on Pathankot-Uri National Highway, which connects the town with Srinagar (244 km).
