Banihal Pass

Banihal Pass is an important pass on the Pir Panjal Range in Jammu and Kashmir. Perched at an altitude of 2,739 m, it lies in the shape of a tunnel on the peak.

Banihal Pass links Jammu with Kashmir Valley. As it remains snow clad most of the times, it is difficult to travel so a new tunnel called Jawahar Tunnel (2,825 m long) was constructed. This tunnel makes it possible to stay in touch with Srinagar even during winters.

Baramula Pass (1,582 m high) and Hajipir Pass (2,750 m high) lie on the opposite side of the range.
