Balti Tribes are settled in the Suru Valley of the
Ladakh range and is a crossbreed between the Dards from Dardistan and Mongoloids from Tibet. They belong to the Shia sect of Islam. Animal husbandry is their main source of livelihood. In addition to this, they also do occupations such as horticulture, business and unskilled and semi-skilled labor. These tribes rear goats and sheep for wool, milk, skin and meat.
