Solan

The Mushroom City



The city of Solan is situated on the Shimla-Kalka Highway, 52 km from the hill station Shimla. The city is an agricultural area where a large variety of vegetables and mushrooms are grown. The land is also famous for the oldest brewery in India.

Solan is a picturesque spot which is best suited for walks and picnics. It also has a number of cultural and recreational centers in addition to temples. Some of the major attractions include Karol Tibba, Meteol Tibba, Kotla Nallah and Sholoni Devi Temple. The river Giri which flows through the town has some of the best spot of angling such as Mareog, Gaura and Karkanu.

Solan is connected by narrow gauge rails from Kalka, 42 km away. The airport at Shimla is the nearest airfield. It can also be reached by NH 22.
