Kangra Valley




Kangra is a low altitude valley situated between the Dhauladhar range and the Shivaliks, in Kangra District. This dun type valley extends from Shahpur to Palampur and Baijnath.

Kangra Valley is particularly noted for its picturesque settings. It is a tourists' paradise - the undulating hills, lovely streams, which are fed from perennial snows, and the mysterious forests of Dhauladhar creates a world of unending charm. Its old forts, ancient temples and picturesque villages beacon even the most laid-back tourist.

The valley has had human settlements from time unknown. The discovery of Paleolithic hand tools from this area underlines this historic fact. The Kangra painting, which depicts human love in line and color, allures with its ageless beauty. Besides, the valley is an ideal trekking destination.

Baijnath, Palampur, Kangra and Dharamsala towns are located in this valley.
