Losar, the Tibetan New Year, is celebrated normally in the month of February. On this three days festival Tibetan youth performs Yak dance and throws sampa as a way of greeting and welcoming the new year.
Celebrations are usually restricted to the family on the first day. People visit and exchange gifts with friends and relatives on second and third days. Tibetans in India visit monasteries and make offerings on these days. Monasteries are adorned with the finest decorations. Religious ceremonies and rituals are also performed to drive away evil spirits.
