Kishtwar, set amidst sylvan surroundings of wooded hills, is 216 km north-east of
Jammu. It is located in
Doda District of
Jammu and Kashmir at an altitude of 1640 m.
Major attraction of Kishtwar is its enchanting trekking trails – the region is a prominent trekking base of the state. Sickle Moon (6574 m), Eiger (6001 m), Cathedral (5370 m), Charcha (6065 m), Namtse (6000 m) and Lhalung (Durung Glacier) are some of the known peaks of Kishtwar Himalayas.
Other places of tourist interest include the Ziarat Zain-Shah-Sahib, Shrine of Farid-ud-Din Sahib, Athra Buja Devi Temple, Chandi Mata Temple and Bhandarkote Cave (12 km). Paddar, Dacchan and
Marwah valleys are nearby.
Doda is around 70 km south-west. Nearest airport and railhead are at Jammu.
National Highway 1B has its route through Kishtwar.
