Jwalamukhi Temple is an ancient shrine situated on
Dharamsala-
Shimla road, in
Kangra District,
Himachal Pradesh. It is one of the
Shaktipithas of India. The temple is dedicated to
Goddess Jwalamukhi, the deity of flaming mouth, believed to be the manifestation of
Goddess Sati.
There is no idol in the temple; Devi appears in the form of nine different flames. The principle one is Goddess Kali. The other eight flames at different places in the temple represent Goddesses Annapurna, Chandi, Hinglaj, Vidhya Vasini, Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Saraswati, Ambika and Goddess Anjana.
The magnificent gold umbrella of the temple was donated by Emperor Akbar. In the temple mandap, there is a huge brass bell presented by the King of Nepal.
The annual fairs conducted on March-April and September-October, during the Navratri celebrations, is a major draw.
Jwalamukhi Temple is situated on a small spur, about 20 km from the Jwalamukhi Road Railway Station. The temple can be reached from the Kangra Bus Station (34 km).
