Karsog, 350 meters high, is a sub-divisional headquarters of
Mandi District. Located 100 km from
Shimla, it is positioned amid apple orchards in a beautiful valley.
Strewn with myths and legends, Karsog is a beautiful bowl-shaped valley. According to local populace, Karsog is the marriage venue of Bhim and Hidimba.
Blessed with numerous temples built in pahari-style, Karsog is often referred to as the valley of ancient temples. Mamleshwar Mahadev Temple, Kamakshi Devi Temple and Mahunag Temple are among the prominent shrines. One of the temples in the region boasts a pair of ancient drums which is thought to have been played by Bhim - one among the Pandavas.
People here follow unique customs. They sought the help of local spirits to cure physical and psychological ailments.
Shikari Devi Temple, (height-3,332 meters) with gorgeous views of sunrise and sunset, is nearby. Apart from a number of hotels and guest houses, there is a forest rest house for accommodation.
An ideal place for trekking, Karsog can be approached by bus from Mandi or Shimla. The best time to visit here is from April to October.
