Hamirpur District




Hamirpur District is situated at the lower elevation of Himalayas and was formed into a district in 1972. It is a small district and has an area of 1,118 sq km. The hilly ranges are covered with pine forests. Hamirpur belongs to the sub-humid sub-tropical zone. Hamirpur town is the headquarters of Hamirpur district. Hindi, Punjabi and English are spoken by the people.

Hamirpur falls within the drainage basins of Beas River which run from East to West direction. Agriculture plays an important role in the economy of the people. Wheat, maize, rice, pulses, oilseeds and vegetables are grown here. The places of attraction in Hamirpur are Deotsidh, temple of Sujanpur Tihra and Nadaun.
