Built in traditional Tibetan style, Norbulingka Institute is located in the valley below
Dharamsala. It is a registered trust, and is managed by Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of the Tibetans. The institute strives to preserve the literary and artistic forms of the Tibetan culture.
The institute is inclusive of three sections such as the Center of the Arts, the Academy of Tibetan Culture and the Literary and Cultural Research Centre. These sections impart training in the traditional arts and literary studies.
A specialty is the making of traditional costumed dolls, which is a rich heritage of regional, monastic and ritual costume.
The institute is 6 km from the offices of Central Tibetan Administration.
