Hamirpur District is situated at the lower elevation of
Himalayas and was formed into a district in 1972. It is a small district and has an area of 1,118 sq km. The hilly ranges are covered with pine forests. Hamirpur belongs to the sub-humid sub-tropical zone. Hamirpur town is the headquarters of Hamirpur district.

Hamirpur falls within the drainage basins of
