Surajkund Crafts Mela is held at
Suraj Kund in
Faridabad District on the
Haryana-
Delhi border. Surajkund is very close to
Tughlaqabad, a medieval fort in Delhi. The Crafts Mela, an annual event, is held between 1st and 15th February every year. Over the years, the fair has become one of the most important tourism fairs with people from all cross the country and abroad coming to Delhi especially to attend the fair. The Crafts Mela showcases myriad handloom, handicraft and artworks from all the states and union territories of India. From South Indian sandalwood and rosewood carvings to Chikri woodcraft of
Jammu and Kashmir to Kantha weave from
West Bengal to Phulkari embroidery of
Punjab to Bunni embroidery of
Gujarat to Tanjore paintings to Pattachitra from
Orissa - each and every stall displays a bit of India. Add to this a traditional rural atmosphere created by permanent stalls, complete with village wells, artificial waterfalls, huts and havelis. Also, several food stalls are set up in the Mela where traditional Indian cuisines from various regions are served. The Mela has a theme state every year and every evening there's a cultural evening wherein folk artists perform traditional art forms.
