Morni Hills, an offshoot of
Shivalik Range, which run in two parallel ranges, in
Morni,
Haryana. Situated at an altitude of about 3900 ft above sea level, it is an ideal place for a holiday with its cool climate and beautiful natural vistas. There are numerous opportunities for trekking, rock-climbing and other adventure sports. Morni Hills is about 45 km east of
Chandigarh.
Morni Hills has a myriad variety of flora and fauna. It is a favorite haunt for wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers with its rich population of birds including peacock,
red jungle fowl, black francolin, quails, Himalayan bulbul and oriental turtle dove as well as animals including jackals, langur, hare, hyenas, Nilgai, Sambar, barking deer and leopards.
Ruins of a historic fort can be seen here. It is believed that the fort belonged to the Queen of Morni Hills. A tourist complex is situated close to the fort. The two large lakes, separated by a hillock, is another point of attraction. The lakes seem to be mysteriously interconnected even though they are separated. The water level of these remains the same, as there is a hidden channel under the hill connecting them.
There is a small temple situated on the banks of the river. The temple enshrines a Trimurti idol dating back to the 12th century.
The best time to visit is from September to March.
The place is under the control of Haryana Tourism Corporation.
