Bhima Devi Temple

Bhima Devi Temple is a highly revered shrine situated on the Pinjore-Kalka Road in Haryana, about 22 km from Chandigarh. The temple, situated in the backdrop of Shivalik Hills, is considered as one of the oldest temples in India. The presiding deity here is Bhima Devi, an incarnation of Goddess Durga.

Bhima Devi Temple, which is a part of the Panchayatan group of temples, dates back to the period between 9th to 11th century. The images of various gods and goddess including an ancient image of four-armed Shiva, colossal head of Bhairava and different forms of Lord Ganesh and Shakti were discovered during excavations in the temple premises. These ancient sculptures and idols are displayed in the temple.

The mythological warrior Bhim, one of the Pandava brothers, worshipped Goddess Durga here; hence the name Bhima Devi Temple.

Bhima Devi Temple is now in a dilapidated state due to age and neglect.
