Ibrahim
Lodhi was the last ruler of the
Delhi Sultanate. He was the elder son of Sikander Lodhi and ascended the throne in 1517. During his reign, Ibrahim had to face stiff opposition from the powerful Afghan nobles in his court who refused to submit to him. He killed his brother Jalal, when the nobles made him the Sultan of Jaunpur. The first battle of Panipat marked the end of the
Sultanate of Delhi when in 1526,
Babur defeated Ibrahim Lodhi. This victory started the
Mughal era in India.
