The medieval Gauri Shankar Temple is located at Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi. It was built in 1623 and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that the Mughal Emperor,
Aurangzeb had given an order that the temple bells should not be rung. However, after giving such an order, the emperor couldn't sleep for three nights, as the bells kept ringing in his ears. At last, he took back his orders. The temple has a Shivaling and an idol of Gauri or Goddess Parvati. The ancient brown stone Shivaling rests on a marble 'yoni'. Shivaratri is a major festival in this temple.
