Kushan

Kushan is a popular folk-drama of Assam. This performing art is accompanied by Kushana gan (song). The theme of the song is taken from the great epic Ramayana. Legend has it that this festival is named after ‘Kusha’, one of the twin babies of Sita Devi.

Kushan mainly consists of fifteen to twenty members. The leader of the gang is called Gidal who plays the musical instrument ‘Bena’. The other characters are known by the names Doyari (a ridiculous character), Bain (drummer), Pait (companion of the mul) and Chukuri (male dancer in guise of female).
