Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery




Established in 1894, Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery is well known for its rich and well-organized collections. The collection covers the subjects of art and archeology, natural history, geology, and ethnology. It displays the artefacts and art objects collected form different places of India, and from distant regions of the world including Egypt, Japan, the Netherlands, and Tibet. The art gallery houses a fine collection of European old masters, Veronese, Giordano, Zurbaran, some Flemish and Dutch school paintings. The museum also exhibits the famous Akota bronzes dating from the 5th Century.

Through its collections and multi-faceted activities, the museum provides a non-formal education in scientific and cultural areas. It conducts periodical cultural and educational exhibitions on various topics, offering illustrated teaching on museum subjects. For school children and the visiting public, they show educational films. Facilities for the drawing and study of the exhibits at close quarters are provided.
