Pratap Vilas in
Vadodara is an outstanding palace in Indo-Saracenic style. Built as the residence of the royal family, the palace is noted for its architectural grandeur, comprising columns and arches, which are a fine blend of South Indian, North Indian and Islamic architecture.
The entrance of the palace is adorned with exquisite carvings, and Durbar hall is flamboyant with intricately sculpted cedar balconies, chandeliers and a silver throne. Besides, the palace has on display a remarkable collection of old armory and sculptures in bronze, marble and terra-cotta.
Pratap Vilas presently houses the Railway Staff College - the main training center of the Indian Railways. A beautiful mini-railway model room showing different types of railway operations can be seen here.
