Kutch, the biggest district in
Gujarat, covers an area of 45,652 sq km. Over half of this area is desert and marshland.
Jakhau, Kandla, and Mundra are the ports. The important places are Anjar,
Mundra, Kandla and Mandvi.
The headquarters town Bhuj is famous for exquisite silverware, embroidered items and tie and dye fabrics. There are several export-oriented industries in Kandla. Gandhidham, the center for small scale industries, was formed as a planned town to relocate Sindhi migrants from Pakistan.
Kutch is home to the flamingo, pelican, avocet and the rare Indian wild ass.
Tourist attractions include the
Aina Mahal, an eighteenth century royal palace with a hall of mirrors; Rao Pragmalji's Palace, the Sharad Baugh palace, the Royal Cenotaphs Chattris, the Kutch museum and the Ethnology museum. The famous pilgrim centers are Narayan Sarovar and Koteshwar.
