Darbargadh is a palace at Dhoraji near
Gondal, in
Gujarat. This palace is built at the highest point in the foritifed town of Dhoraji. Dhoraji is a fine
example of town planning during the British rule.
Darbargadh is a three-storeyed structure on a high plinth, with excellent visibility. The architectural style used here follows the jewel-box structure, found in the Navlakha Palaces at Gondal. Darbari Bari is the gateway to the structure. This gate displays superb artistic skills with its intricate jharokas (decorative lattice windows). The brackets are 4 sculpted elephants in different poses. Access to the structure, set in the middle of a courtyard, is through a finely decorative gate. The building is beautified with images of musicians, complex geometric patterns and animals, friezes, artistic windows and carved pillars.
