Sabarkantha District




Sabarkantha is one of the three northern districts of Gujarat. It covers an area of 7,390 sq km and has a population of over 2 million. Sabarkantha is famous for cattle-raising and dairy industry. Important places are Shamlaji, Idar, and Khedbrahma.

Cotton and groundnut are the main crops. The Sabar dairy is located at the headquarters Himmatnagar. Modasa is an educational center, and Khedbramha is known for the Ambaji and Bramha Temples. Shamlaji is the famous pilgrim center of Sabarkantha. A three-week-long fair at the time of the Kartika Full Moon is held here annually. The place Idar is renowned for its ancient fort, temples, and toys.
