Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber) is about 42 inches tall and has a wingspan of about five feet. It has a very long neck, long pink legs, pink feet and pink feathers. The bird has a large hooked bill with a black tip that is curved down. The wings have black tips.
The bird resides in mudflats and shallow coastal lagoons with salt water. Using its feet the bird stir up the mud, then sucks water through its bill and filters out small shrimp, seeds, blue-green algae, microscopic organisms and mollusks.
The bird is found in north-west India.
