Sabarmati Ashram, or Gandhi Ashram, was founded by
Mahatma Gandhi in 1920. It is situated near the
Sabarmati river in
Ahmedabad,
Gujarat. During the time of Gandhiji it was known as
Satyagraha Ashram. The famous Dandi March of Mahatma Gandhi against the British Tax Act started from here in 1930. The cottage, Hridaya Kunj, where he lived is maintained as a National Monument. The Gandhi Ashram has a memorial centre, library and a sound and light spectacle to familiarize visitors with Gandhiji’s life and works.
