Black Rat Snake (Elaphe obsoleta) is a large, powerful constrictor often found in forests, fields, marshes and farmland. It is basically black, with some white showing between scales. The belly is also white.
It climbs trees to find prey. It feeds on rodents, rabbits, other snakes, birds and eggs. Females lay a clutch of 5 to 30 eggs, in a rotten log, under a rock, or in a pile of dead leaves.
