Calangute beach, the Queen of Beaches, is located about 16 km from
Panaji. It lies on the shore of the
Arabian Sea in
North Goa District and is surrounded by the villages of
Arpora-
Nagoa,
Saligao, and
Candolim, which enhance its beauty. This beach was discovered by Hippies. Shows such as rock, pop beat shows, open air dances, and fetes are held on the beach. This beach is a favourite spot for water sports. The tourist can enjoy bathing in the quiet solitude of the sea, sun, and sand.
The best time to visit this place is from December to February. It is considered as a perfect place to spend a holiday. Near by attractions of this beach are St Alex Church, famous for its architectural style and Kerkar Art Complex, a gallery that exhibits arts and crafts of local artistes.
