Zuari River is the southern counterpart of the
Mandovi River. Its source water is in the form of a stream, located in the hilly areas of the south-western part of Sanguem taluk. Traversing about 34 km between wide valleys adjoining high plateau-land on either side, it meets with the Talaulim stream, at the town of
Sanguem. Here the river widens and accepts water from its main tributary, the Kushavati. The Zuari flows through the Quepem, Salcete, Ponda, Mormugao and Tiswadi taluks and finally drains into the
Arabian Sea, around the
Mormugao harbor.
The Mandovi and the Zuari are lifelines of Goa and these along with their tributaries drain around 70 % of the geographical area of the state.
