The picturesque village of Morjim has one of the loveliest
beaches of
Goa. It is in the Pernem taluk of
North Goa District.
Chapora River stocked with fish and a long stretch of land with coconut groves, small hills and the
Arabian Sea that beautifies the land. It is a rustic location full of traditions and folklore like most Goan villages. It is the home of the Goan folk dance, Ghoddemodni. Maddachem Godd is a common traditional Goan sweet available here.
The main attractions of Morjim village include a 250 year-old temple complex which houses five shrines. Viranchi Bhatti is a monument built in memory of the martyrs who lost their lives in a riot among Hindus and Muslims. Every newly wedded couple of Morjim visit the memorial.
Morjim is bordered by Chopdem on the east and Ashvem-Mandrem on the west.
It can be reached by ferry across the Chapora river or through the Colvale bridge. Morjim is 40 km from the state capital, Panaji and the nearest airport is Goa Airport at
Dabolim.
