Gray Heron (Ardea cinerea) is the largest European heron. It can stand with neck stretched out, looking for food, or hunch down with its neck bent over its chest. While flying it holds its neck retracted and has large rounded wings. The bird usually stands silently at the water's edge, waiting for prey.
Nest is built in the highest trees and constructed by branches and sticks. The bird is usually found in wetland marshes, gravel pits, reservoirs, lakes and rivers and estuaries. Its main diet is fish.
Gray Heron can be spotted in Chitrangudi Bird Sanctuary, Tamil Nadu.
