Church of St Francis of Assisi is located at
Old Goa, the former capital of
Goa. Old Goa is about 9 km east of
Panaji. The external architecture of church conforms to the Tuscan style. Scenes from the Bible are heavily gilded on the interior part of the church.
Octagonal shaped tabernacle, decorated in an ornate style, has statues of St Francis of Assisi and Jesus on the Cross. Scenes from the life of St Francis are imprinted on the tombstones laid on the floor.
The church and convent of St Francis of Assisi were built by the Franciscan friars. The convent is now an archaeological museum, which displays artifacts, paintings and sculptures.
