Church of St John the Baptist, built on land leased by the Comuninades, is situated on the hilltop near the
Benaulim beach. This structure is a wonderful example of the typical Goan Christian architecture.
Before the onset of monsoon, Feast of St John the Baptist (Sao Joao) is celebrated as a thanksgiving. During the celebration, young men wearing crowns made from leaves and fruits tour the village for gifts. This is to commemorate the movement of St John in his mother’s womb.
Benaulim has a host of accommodation facilities. The nearest railway station is at Karmali. There are frequent buses to
Margao and Panaji from Colva, which is 2 km from Benaulim beach.
