Calangute

Calangute Village is one of the palm-bedecked coastal hamlets of North Goa. Also known as Kalyangutti, it is a place renowned for art. The village is full of coconut trees, hence the sobriquet ‘Konvallo-ghott'. The Calangute Beach, known as the ‘Queen of Beaches’, is one of the best destinations in Goa. This drowsy little village encompasses several wards such as Khobravaddo, Sauntavaddo, Porbavaddo, Naikavaddo, Agarvaddo, Maddavaddo, Tivaivaddo, Gauravaddo, and Unttavaddo. It has a church, dedicated to St. Alex, and a school, St Joseph High School. Certain leftovers found in the village indicate that once the Buddhist stayed there. The spring at Mottant, which is supposed to have medicinal properties, is an ideal spot for picnics and bathing.
