Tughlaqabad is a magnificent fort built by the Sultan of
Delhi, Ghias-ud-din Tughlaq, in 1324. The fort was of gigantic proportions. It took 4 years to complete the fort. The fort contained a vast number of buildings, mosques, palaces, towers and tanks surrounded by massive walls.
Tughlaqabad Fort was abandoned after the death of Ghias-ud-din Tughlaq. It is believed that a Muslim saint called Saint Nizamuddin cursed the fort, causing its abandonment. Subsequent rulers have removed building materials from the fort and used it in the construction of other forts.
