Jalal-ud-din Khilji

The founder of Khilji Dynasty in South Asia, Jalal-ud-din Khilji was crowned the Sultan at the age of 70 in 1290. He was basically a Central Asian, and lived in Afghanistan for a very long period. Initially, the reign of Khilji was not welcomed in the country, but at last he succeeded in winning the hearts of the people through his compassion and kindness.

Jalal ud-din Khilji sustained most of the officers holding prominent positions in the Slave dynasty. Alauddin Khilji, his nephew and son-in-law, invaded Malwa and captured the town of Bhilsa. He also conquered some of the significant regions of South India.

Ultimately, Alauddin Khilji returned home with the looted wealth and led the Sultan into a trap and killed him. After the assassination of his uncle, Alauddin Khilji declared himself as the Sultan of Delhi in 1296.
