The district of East Delhi is located on one side of the
Yamuna River. It is bounded by the border of
Uttar Pradesh comprising of
Noida and
Ghaziabad. East Delhi, covering an area of 364 sq km, has a population of around 1.5 million. It has an extreme type of continental climate and the temperature varies from 4° C to 45° C. The main languages spoken are
Hindi, English,
Urdu and
Punjabi.
East Delhi is well connected to the rest of Delhi through a network of bridges. It is one of the most densely populated areas in Delhi. Some of the busiest commercial areas are Vikas Marg, Gandhi Nagar, Lakshmi Nagar, Preet Vihar and Shahdara. Regular bus services are available from East-Delhi to rest of Delhi. The Gandhi Nagar Market is the largest market for ready made garments in Asia. There are 3 well maintained and major sports complexes, and a large number of restaurants which serve Indian and Mughlai food.
