Kashmiri Gate

Kashmiri Gate is a monument situated in the northern end of Old Delhi. It is so called because it faces the direction of Jammu and Kashmir. In the year 1857 the British fought a furious battle here and took Delhi back from the Indians. The Mutiny Memorial built by the British in remembrance of the soldiers who lost their lives in the rebellion stands to the west of the gate. This was the gate from where the royal families would leave Delhi for Kashmir every year in summer.
