Dhamtari, the seat of administration of
Dhamtari District, is a small town located on the fertile plains of
Chhattisgarh and is 78 km south of
Raipur.
It has a rich cultural heritage and is famous for its dance styles, cuisine, music and traditional folk songs. Dhamtari is also one of the major diamond producing centers in the state.
Places of tourist interest include Gangrel Dam (13 km), Sihava (65 km) and Bilai Mata.
Nearest airport is at Raipur. Dhamtari Railway Station is on the Raipur-Dhamtari narrow gauge line. Nearest major railhead is at Raipur.
National Highway 43 passes through Dhamtari.
