Durg is a populous district of
Chhattisgarh. It occupies the south-western part of the Upper Sheonath-Mahanadi valley and the bordering hills in the south and south-west. The climate is moderate. In summer, the temperature goes to a maximum of 43-45º C. In winter, the minimum temperature falls to 12º C. The average rainfall is around 1,024 mm.
The main crops are
rice, wheat, and jowar. Agriculture is the main source of income for majority of the villagers. Durg has a rich cultural heritage and has its own dance styles, cuisine, music and traditional folk songs, of which the Sohar, Bihav and Pathoni songs are very famous.
Raut Nacha, the traditional folk dance performed by the Yadav caste of this region is famous. The Maitry Bag, a zoo-cum-children’s park has many birds, animals and reptiles, along with playing facilities for children.
