Charta festival is celebrated in the
Koriya District of
Chhattisgarh. This festival comes around the poornima (full moon day) of the Hindu month of Paush (December-January). It celebrates the harvesting of crops.
On the day of the Charta festival the people have a special mid-day meal at their home. Following the meal, the children visit each home in the village for collecting rice. This collected rice is cooked in the evening by the young girls in an appropriate place fit for arranging a feast. The feast is attended by all the people in the village.
