Kanker is a historic town and administrative headquarters of
Kanker District in
Chhattisgarh. It was once the capital of a princely state. Kanker is about 150 km south of
Raipur, the capital city of the state.
Kanker is dotted with historical monuments constructed in the previous two centuries. The Kanker Palace (residence of the royal family) and the Shivani Temple are the major attractions of the town. Malanjhkudum Waterfalls and Charre-Marre Waterfalls are other major tourist spots in the district.
Raipur Airport is the nearest airport. Dhamtari Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
National Highway 43 has its route through Kanker.
