Ghaggar is a seasonal river of north India. It rises from the
Shivalik Range of north-western
Himachal Pradesh and flows through
Pinjore in
Haryana to meet River Saraswati. After passing through
Ambala and
Hissar districts of Haryana it disappears into the
Thar Desert in
Rajasthan. The seasonal flow of the river is maintained by the monsoon rain. Several scholars identify Ghaggar with the Vedic Saraswati River. Many settlements of
Indus Valley Civilization have been excavated along the banks of Ghaggar.
