The Prapitaamaheshwara temple is situated in
Gaya District,
Bihar. This temple is dedicated to
Lord Shiva and is a famous site for giving offerings (pindas)to dead relatives. It is one of the oldest temples in Gaya and dates back to the 11th century. The temple is adjacent to the two sacred hills of Bhramayoni and Vasmakuta.
The temple is built of black basalt. It faces east and has a hall in front of it. The massive stone slabs of the hall are supported by huge polygonal stone pillars placed one above the other. There are 5 domes on the top of the hall. The tower of the shrine is pyramidal in shape, topped by a lotus-like structure with a broken iron trident.
