Nanda Dynasty was founded by Mahapadma Nanda, the illegitimate son of the last Shishunaga emperor Mahanandi. They were the successors of Saisunagas in Magadha and ruled Magadha from 413 to 322 BC. The kings and the ministers of this dynasty were Jains. It is believed that, the sacred stupas at Rajgir were established by Dhana Nanda, the last Nanda king.
The most popular ruler of Nanda Dynasty was Mahapadma Nanda. His title was 'Vardhana'. He vanquished south-east and the regions of western seacoast. He brought regions of Himalayas, Kashmir and Avanti under his control.
Chandragupta Maurya overthrew this dynasty with the help of Chanakya in 325 BC.
