Situated on the banks of the
Ganges, Maner is a town in
Patna District. It is 29 km east of
Patna. Maner was once on the convergence of the Ganges and Son Rivers.
Maner was the western gate of Pataliputra (now Patna) during the Mauryan times. The excavations made here revealed the remains of an ancient fort, which in turn implies the significance of the place.
Prominent of the highlights are the mausoleum of a famous 13th century Sufi saint, Hazrat Makhdoom Yahiya Maner, and the tomb of his disciple, Shah Daulat. During Urs festival, a large number of Muslim devotees visit here. It is believed that the town derived its name from this saint. Maner is also famous for its sweets, particularly ladoos, which are made of lentils.
