Khagaria is one of the important districts of
Bihar. It was carved from the
Munger District and consists of 7 blocks. Headquartered at
Khagaria, the district has a population of over one million.
Khagaria is bounded by
Saharsa District in the north,
Madhepura District in the north-east,
Bhagalpur District in the east, Munger District in the south, and
Begusarai District in the west. It also touches the districts of
Samastipur and
Darbhanga in its north-western side. Khagaria and Ghoghri are the two sub-divisions of the district.
Out of the total 1,486 sq km land area, 7 sq km comes under the forest area and the rest is used for the irrigation purpose. Economy depends mainly on agriculture. Paddy,
wheat,
maize and jute are some of the important agricultural crops. The
Ganges and
Kosi are the two major rivers of Khagaria.
