Katihar, once known as Saifganj, is a small town in north-eastern
Bihar. The town serves as the district headquarters of
Katihar District and is situated on the banks of the Mahananda River, a tributary of the
Ganges. Katihar is mainly engaged in agricultural trade and is 175 km east of
Patna.
The nearest airport is at Patna. Katihar Railway Station is a major rail junction in Bihar.
