The Mahananda River is an important eastern tributary of the
Ganges in
Bihar. The river rises from the hills of
Darjeeling in extreme northern
West Bengal. It flows south through a rich agricultural area in Bihar, enters West Bengal, flows past English Bazar and then continues in the south-east direction into Bangladesh. It joins Ganges after completing its 360-km-long course. The river neither has any tributary nor any distributaries.
