Yellow Bittern (Ixobrychus sinensis) is the smallest of the bitterns. Its upper-parts are yellowish-brown, underparts paler, bill yellow, and legs are greenish-yellow. The male has a black cap and plain back.
The bird prefers freshwater wetlands with thick vegetation to hide and nest. I can be spotted in marshes, grasslands, reed beds, ponds, reservoirs, including man-made canals and dredge-mine lagoons. It hunts small fish, frogs and invertebrates.
It can be spotted in the Karbi Anglong Wildlife Sanctuary, Assam.
